Biography
Meet Prof. Walid Elmoghazy
Prof. Walid Elmoghazy is a Professor of General Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine, Sohag University, Egypt. He is also Senior Consultant and Clinical Lead of Liver Surgery and Transplantation, and an Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine, where he is actively involved in teaching and mentoring undergraduate medical students.
With more than 20 years of clinical, academic, and surgical experience, Prof. Elmoghazy has dedicated his career to hepatobiliary, pancreatic, and liver transplant surgery.
He obtained his MBBCh from the Faculty of Medicine, Sohag University, followed by an MSc in General Surgery, and later earned his PhD in Hepatobiliary and Liver Transplant Surgery from Kyoto University, Japan. He was awarded the prestigious Honorary Fellowship of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) in recognition of his professional achievements and contributions to surgery.
Prof. Elmoghazy completed advanced fellowship training at several internationally renowned centers, including Kyoto University (Japan), Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham (United Kingdom), the University of Alberta (Canada), and Institut Mutualiste Montsouris, Paris (France). This international training provided extensive expertise in complex liver, pancreatic, biliary, and liver transplant surgery.
Throughout his career, he has participated in more than 150 liver transplant procedures and performed over 1,000 major hepatobiliary and pancreatic operations. His expertise includes open and laparoscopic surgery, with a particular focus on liver tumors, pancreatic cancer, biliary reconstruction, minimally invasive HPB surgery, and complex hepatopancreatobiliary procedures.
In addition to his clinical practice, Prof. Elmoghazy is deeply committed to medical education, surgical training, and clinical research. As an Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine, he teaches medical students and contributes to their clinical education. He also mentors HPB fellows and surgical residents, supervises postgraduate research, and regularly participates as invited faculty and speaker at national and international scientific meetings.
